CI VIEW: Intel CEO Brian Krzanich seen resigning after AWOL at US Senate Committee hearing

WASHINGTON (BBN) – Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) Chief Executive Officer Brian Krzanich resignation may be imminent after the embattled CEO failed to attend a US Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee hearing in Washington DC today.

Intel Corporation media relations declined to respond to an email inquiry on the exact nature of Krzanich’s scheduling conflict or whether the executive is about to resign as Intel CEO.  Krzanich was listed as a witness for the hearing as of January 19, 2018, according to the Reuter’s Daybook.

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman US Senator John Thune (R-SD) said he was only told that a scheduling conflict as the reason for Krzanich cancelling to appear as a witness to the “Driving Automotive Innovation and Federal Policies” hearing at at the Washington Auto Show on January 24, 2018.

Analysts following Intel said Krzanich failure to attend such an important hearing on legislation regarding autonomous vehicles could be the end of Kraznich’s reign at Intel.

An analyst said Krzanich is under heavy pressure on news that Krzanich may have improperly sold USD 39m in Intel stock ahead of the public announcement regarding a serious security flaw in its chips.

The US Senate Commerce Committee meeting at the Washington Auto Show is said to be first time a Senate Committee has held a meeting out the US Senate in Washington, DC.  On January 25, 2018, the US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will be holding a field hearing at Washington Auto Show held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.
