CI VIEW: Congress should censure not impeach Trump for US Capitol attack, Donald Graham

WASHINGTON, DC (BBN) — The United States Congress needs to censure and not impeach President Donald J. Trump for his complicity in the attack on the U.S. Capitol, former Washington Post owner Donald Graham said.

Graham condemned calls by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for Impeachment as any trial will take place after the inauguration of President Joe Biden on January 20.

Impeaching Trump now just seems politically crazy to me. He may well deserve it. But his conduct has driven a wall between him and many Republican Senators for the first time; an impeachment will push them back together,” Donald Graham said in a facebook post on January 9, 2020, adding:  “And a trial has to take place right after Biden’s inauguration, blowing up any chance of the kind of co-operation Biden has been talking about for months, delaying the confirmation of his Cabinet and others, and making the first month of Biden’s Presidency about Trump, not him. Censure Trump, don’t impeach him. You can censure him within ten days and make him the first President ever censured by Congress.”

Graham — who sold his family newspaper to Amazon owner and CEO Jeff Bezos in 2013 for USD 250m — remains one of the most influential figures in mainstream Democratic party politics.

Unlike a failed impeachment, a Congressional act of censure against President Trump would unite the moderate wings of the Republican and Democratic parties for the first in decades while marginalizing the demagogic extremists on both sides of the aisle.

Those calling for Trump’s impeachment may be purposely obscuring the fact the Donald Trump’s political and financial future permanently ended with the U.S. Capitol debacle that costs the life of U.S. Capitol police officer Brian D. Sicknick and USAF veteran Trump supporter. Ashli Babbitt.

The massive “March for Trump” held at the White House Ellipse and attended by over 100,000 people (when 30,000 were expected) was more about Donald Trump launching a multi-billion dollar post-presidential commercial political reality TV/Nascar-like franchise https://www.donaldjtrump.com/  than about voter fraud.

Trump is fully aware that he lost the 2020 elections because of fraud and embezzlement within his own “Trump for President” campaign” operation and complete dysfunction of the Republican National Committee and state GOP leadership in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and Michigan.

While Biden could depend on a small group of dedicated financial sponsors such as Michael Bloomberg and Tom Steyer, Trump managed to alienate almost every mainstream Republican business leader across the country, including RNC co-Campaign Finance Chair and Chicago Cubs owner, Todd M. Ricketts.

Trump’s financial position today is almost as bad it was in the 1990s when he racked up more than USD 900m in personal debt thanks to complete mismanagement and incompetence of his sons, Donald, Jr and Eric Trump.

According to leaked tax documents to the New York Times, the Trump Organization is at least USD 400m underwater and could soon approach the near USD 1bn figure when lenders such as Deutsche Bank begin calling back loans for covenant issues.

A leading industrial source told Capitol Intelligence that real estate concerns such as Vornado and CBRE refuse to list Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC for reputational reasons.

“Even brokers (who will do business with anyone who will pay their commission) are refusing to list his DC hotel,” the source wrote.

Graham’s call for Congressional censure will allow a centrist coalition to from in the Senate and US House of Representatives and forever end the social media created Andrew Jackson-like Trumpism movement into history.
